Important Announcements & News
Quarterly Precept Ceremony
The next Precept Ceremony is scheduled for December 4 during the Sunday morning Service. Anyone preparing to take the Zen Buddhist Precepts this time, please be in contact for a preparatory meeting. The Elephant Festival
The Buddha used the example of a wild elephant which, when it is caught, is harnessed to a tame one to train. In the same way, he said, a person new to Buddhism should have a special friendship of an older or more experienced Buddhist. To mark this saying, we hold an elephant festival on the third Sunday in November, i.e. this year on the 19th.
Celebration: Every member of our temple is encouraged to invite a friend and/or sponsor a new participant, being his or her spiritual friend and offering help with Zen practice.
Temple Council
A special Board meeting has been scheduled for Friday, November 11, 5:30 PM. The Temple Council will address some important changes regarding Lotus Zen Temple. The meeting is open to all sangha members. If you would like to participate and know the topic, please contact sangha@lotustemple.us. -- We have also moved our Social Sangha and pot luck to that day.
Though the meeting is open to all sangha members, we would like to get as much input as possible beforehand. It will be important for the discussion and subsequent decision making process that we gather everyone's opinion and a broad consensus. Please take a moment to vote and visit the following web page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LZT/surveys?id=3072757 before Friday.
Buddha Bookworm
Our Buddhist Reading Group has been moved to Tuesday, after meditation at Quan Yin Zendo. We will be discussing various books and Buddhist literature. The coming weeks: "Not Always So" by Shunryu Suzuki. For more details, please contact Lara (Yin Yang) at yinyang@lotustemple
Fall Newsletter
Please help yourself to the new LZT newsletter, just published. Newsletters are distributed in the downstairs lobby and at Quan Yin Zendo.
Support
As we need to meet our monthly budget needs, your support to Lotus Zen Temple is much appreciated. Please make a contribution via PayPal (on the side bar) or by check or cash at the temple. Please visit the donations page for details and options. If you would like to see the current expenditures and quarterly balances, please contact the Board treasurer, Courtney Gibbons.
