The Elephant Festival
The Buddha used the example of a wild elephant which, when it is caught, is harnessed to a tame one to train. In the same way, he said, a person new to Buddhism should have a special friendship of an older Buddhist. To mark this saying, many Buddhists hold an Elephant Festival on the third Saturday in November. For practical purposes, at Lotus Temple it is however celebrated on the third Sunday, November 18, 2012. -- Please join us for a special Service followed by potluck this Sunday.

If you have not done so already, please take a moment to participate in our most recent survey. The Temple Council during its last meeting has discussed to possibly move Meditation & Dharma Service from Sunday morning to Saturday morning. We appreciate your honest feed-back as we try to address community and Lotus Sangha member needs. Kindly take a moment to check all that applies. This is an anonymous survey, but you will be able to see the overall results when the poll ends. Upcoming Classes
** November 30, 2012: SIX PARAMITAS
Paramita is a Sanskrit word, which means to cross over to the other shore, i.e. crossing over from the sea of suffering to the shore of happiness, from the samsara of birth and death to nirvana and from ignorance to enlightenment. A Bodhisattva, who practices the Six Paramitas, can go across the sea of suffering, enter nirvana and attain enlightenment.
** December 28, 2012: Kindness, Compassion and Love
These terms are as confused as they are often misunderstood. In this class, we will explore those differences and show examples from daily life and share experiences in our spiritual practice.
Please enroll on our website: http://www.lotustemple.us/classsignup.html
