Next Class
Have you ever wondered what all the items mean that are on our Buddhist shrine? Or why we have it in the first place? Why we do not use the word "altar"? This class addresses Buddhist tradition when it comes to artifacts and decorum while connecting these visual expressions to spiritual meaning or as an aid to meditation. Bring your questions as well. To sign up, please go to www.lotustemple.us/classsignup.html . All classes at LZT are free of charge.
Shoes, Slippers, etc.
We have a new shoe rack. It is located right at the entrance to your left. It is good to arrange shoes mindfully, neatly, the Zen way. On the top shelf you will find a number of slippers in different sizes for the colder season. Feel free to use them as need be. You can wear them in the Zendo, but before sitting down on your cushion, kindly remove them and place them in front on the floor, again mindfully. As an option, you can wear them during Kinhin. If you feel more comfortable to bring your valuables (such as keys, purses etc.) inside the building, feel free to do so, but leave them always outside the Zendo.
Zen Studies
It is very important to understand that Zen is not just meditation per se, but rather a process of uncovering unconscious habits, patterns and ways of seeing our life. This is extremely difficult to accomplish without a teacher, as the teacher helps us to explore what we normally are not aware of. For opportunities, including the study of Koans, please visit www.lotusblossom.us/zentraining.htm
